How to prepare

Please complete the following before your closing appointment — some of these are required for the closing to proceed.

Please take care of the following before your appointment:

  • Pump down your sump well at least 48 hours in advance. A pool cannot be closed with significant water in the sump well.
  • Vacuum and clean your pool, and remove all debris prior to your closing.
  • To ensure your pool water is chemically balanced, bring in a water sample to your nearest Pioneer location at least one week before closing.
  • Remove all drop-in steps and sand bags prior to closing.
  • Salt cell and cartridge filters should be cleaned and stored indoors. We can clean them for you at an additional cost.
  • Ensure that all equipment, accessories, and winter plugs are accessible for our crew.

Please read before booking

What's not included & important notes

We want to make sure there are no surprises on the day of your appointment.

Partial closings — Etobicoke & Toronto area Prior to your closing appointment, please be aware that you must lower your own pool water to winterization level (to the bottom of your returns) due to water discharge regulations. If you do not reside in the Etobicoke/Toronto area and choose to schedule a partial closing, the water must be drained in advance of our arrival.

Not included with pool closing
  • Winterizing solar heating systems
  • Winterizing Intex or Bestway type pools
  • Cleaning of salt cells and cartridge filters (available at additional cost)
  • Placing cells indoors
  • Removing drop-in steps and sand bags (must be done by homeowner before appointment)
  • Vacuuming and/or chemically balancing the pool
Important to know
  • A pool put to bed clean in the fall is a clean pool in the spring. It is normal for pools closed with a safety cover to open green due to the mesh design of the cover.
  • A pool cannot be closed with significant water in the sump well.
  • Water left unbalanced over the winter can cause liner fading, wrinkles, and staining issues.
  • We are not responsible for winter covers coming out of track, coming loose from a water bag, or covers that cannot be properly secured on an above ground pool due to deck surround.
  • Above ground pools: Please monitor your pool during the winter months to ensure ice and snow are not creating issues with your pool structure or attached fixtures.
  • If any of the required preparation items have not been completed prior to your appointment, our team may need to return at a later date and additional charges will apply.

Cancellation policy: We require at least 24 hours' notice for any appointment cancellations or rescheduling. Appointments where access is restricted (for example, if gates are locked or the pool area is inaccessible) or cancellations made within 24 hours of the scheduled service may result in additional fees.
