How to prepare
A couple of quick steps from you helps our crew get started right away.
Please take care of the following before your appointment:
- Pump down your sump well at least 48 hours in advance of your opening. If there is too much water in the sump well, the opening cannot be completed.
- Ensure any items left on site at closing — and taken in for the winter months — are back out and available for our crew on arrival.

What's not included & important notes
We want to make sure there are no surprises on the day of your appointment.
- Maintenance services such as cleaning, vacuuming, or water chemistry balancing
- Installation of drop-in stair units or diving boards
- Cleaning of salt cells or cartridge filters
- Adding water or algaecide to lock-in cover barrels — the homeowner's responsibility once the barrel is placed in the designated location
- Lowering the pool water level — if above operating level upon opening, the homeowner is responsible for draining to the correct level
- Turning on gas valves — in accordance with natural gas regulations, this must be done by a licensed gas professional or the homeowner
- After your opening, bring a water sample to your nearest Pioneer Family Pools location once the water has been circulating for 24–48 hours. We offer a free water test and will advise on the chemicals needed to balance it.
- A pool cannot be opened if there is significant water in the sump well.
- Water left unbalanced over the winter can cause liner fading, wrinkles, and staining.
- If you have a salt system, an error code may be present until the water reaches a minimum of 75°F, the cell has been cleaned, and water chemistry is balanced. This is normal at the start of the season.
- If significant debris or water has accumulated on the cover, some may enter the pool during removal. Pioneer Family Pools cannot be held responsible for this occurrence.
Cancellation policy: We require at least 24 hours' notice for any appointment cancellations or rescheduling. Appointments where access is restricted (for example, if gates are locked or the pool area is inaccessible) or cancellations made within 24 hours of the scheduled service may result in additional fees.
